Norman Hsu Bailed

By Samantha A. Torrence     Sep 6, 2007 in Politics
Democratic funds donor Norman Hsu was a no show at his court hearing yesterday. Hsu was released on $2 million bail, and has now bailed on his latest hearing. Sources say his passport is missing.
Norman Hsu (shoo), became the face of corruption when he was recently exposed as a fundraiser and donor for major Democratic party members. Hsu was issued a warrant for his arrest by San Mateo Superior Court Judge Robert Foiles after he failed to appear for a second bail hearing which was set for Wednesday to cut his 2 million dollar bail in half.
Hsu turned himself into police 15 years after a felony theft conviction. It is now speculated that he is on the run again after failing to show at his bail hearing and turn in his passport to the legal team on Monday. His lawyer Jim Brosnahan has stated he does not know where Hsu is.
Hsu was set to serve a 3 year jail sentence for swindling around 1 million dollars from potential buyers for a supposed latex glove business. After being on the lam he reappeared in 2004 and began to donate money to many in the Democratic party.
Federal Election Commission records show Hsu donated $260,000 to Democratic Party groups and federal candidates since 2004.
Candidates that received money from Hsu are now attempting to distance themselves from the fugitive by donating money to charities. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and many other high profile democrats have received donations.
