A group in Germany is building the next Great Pyramid 10 times larger than the Great Pyramid of Egypt. Estimated to take 30 years to complete, the communal tomb is being called "a monument for all of us.”
The group Friends of the Great Pyramid said in their site
Great Pyramid's Web site, they are planning to build the next Great Pyramid. They claim to have received funds to build such a gigantic structure and also have enlisted the famed architect Rem Koolhaas as an adviser for this project.
This Great Pyramid will be
used as a communal tomb and will be available to anyone regardless of nationality or religion. It will be a burial space, where a tomb container can be purchased to contain ashes of the deceased and specially engraved memorial stones with time capsule to store personal memorabilia. While the original Pyramids in Egypt is built as a tomb for one person, this new Great Pyramid will be open to everyone. It can be used as a burial site or a memorial site.
It will take 30 years to complete, would be about 1,900 feet tall (578 meters tall) and 10 times larger than the Great Pyramid of Egypt, according to the Great Pyramid's Web site. Once the Pyramid is built it will be surpass the tallest building in the world
El Burj Dubai which stands at 545 meters. However, there is another massive project in Tokyo,
X-Seed 4000, if completed it will be 13,123 foot tall.
Each of the burial spot costs about 700 Euros (US$960) according to Jens Thiel, an economist and one of the Friends of the Great Pyramid leaders.
This group revealed this stone prototype of the Pyramid at the Great Pyramid Festival in Streetz, a small village north of Dessau, Germany.
Famed Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas will be in a panel of judges who will choose the final design of the project. Since this project will require a large amount of funding to build this Pyramid, a feasibility study by the students of Weimar Bauhaus University in Germany showed that this Pyramid project is viable.

The government backed German Federal Cultural Foundation has already given initial funding to start this massive project.
The Pyramid will be build in parts and incrementally with stones added only as people buy the burial spots in the Great Pyramid.
Will the Pyramid withstand the harsher weather and pollution like the Pyramids in Egypt? Only time will tell. As population grows, there will be limited burial spots available, so in a sense this is a good idea. But I would rather scatter ashes in the sea or land.
