Denver Mother Pleads Guilty to Child Abuse

by wiccania.
Krystleann Martinez, 20, plead guilty to charges of child abuse after she left her 9-month son old child in a bathtub full of water while she went to the drugstore in April of this year.
Originally, she told authorities that she'd gone downstairs to get a towel, but according to TheDenverChannel.com, charges were filed after neighbors told authorities that they'd seen her spending time with her older child outside and leaving for the store. The child was near death when paramedics arrived on the scene.

Martinez was initially charged with a class 3 felony, which would have called for up to 12 years in prison. She instead pleaded guilty to a class 4 felony, with a maximum sentence of six years behind bars.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 11 and personally I hope she gets the maximum sentence. To so willfully put a child in that kind of danger is an affront to anyone who has ever lost a child through no fault of their own. I don't think she should have been allowed to plead down to the lesser charge. There's no word on the condition of her son.
