As original content becomes increasingly important, especially online, Cable News Network makes the move away from using Reuters content to gather more of its own. CNN will still use the AP, but its focus will be on providing original content.
As consumers grow weary of seeing the same stories, told the same way, on many news programs and websites, CNN moves away from that formula. CNN won’t totally disregard Reuters news services, or the Associated Press, but it does intend to seek out information using its own resources.
Not only will CNN save ten million dollars per year by not utilizing Reuters, but it will also be able to give consumers something fresh and new. Citing “
growth” and hoping to prove more successful “
in the digital age,”
per Forbes.com, CNN is moving in a new direction. This is especially important for CNN.com, with so much competition from "new media." Search engines will likely respond positively to original content as well.
There is another benefit. CNN can more accurately fact check its own work. This is important following the not so distant controversy concerning faked photographs,
detailed by the National Press Photographers Association, which ended in Reuters apologizing and removing all photos submitted by Adnan Hajj from its database.
Apparently, it will take CNN some time to get things moving in this new direction, after having used Reuters for the past 27 years, but it sounds like good news for Cable News Network and its viewers and readers.
