John Edwards sits poised and ready to send the United States down a road of destruction, by advocating an ineffective policy of “reengagement” with countries such as North Korea or Iran.
On the surface it would seem kosher, but upon deeper intelligent analysis a trend of anti-Americanism can be found just below the surface.
According to Edwards in the September/October 2007 Foreign Affairs periodical, “Our [US] government must reengage with the American people to restore our nation’s reputation as a moral beacon to the world, tapping into our fundamental Hope and Optimism and calling on our citizens’ commitment and courage to make this possible.” He also would like to reengage allies. Basically this means more talk and less action all across the board making for a tragic mistake.
Opening round after round of talks with enemies of the state such as Iran or North Korea that have already or are attempting to acquire nuclear armaments—some possibly in violation of their signatory status to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty—will only allow more time for them to acquire a nuclear powered bomb or worse yet deploy it.
According to
Reuters “More U.S. or international sanctions will not persuade Iran to back down on its nuclear program and could lead to "confrontation" with the West, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in an interview published on Thursday,” according to Reuters.
The Reuters article, “Iranian minister says sanctions are ineffective”, also says, “Mottaki told NPR the new resolution would not force Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program, which the United States and its allies say is aimed at fueling nuclear weapons but Tehran insists is intended to produce electricity.”
So when devising a strategy it may be wise to consider that it is in fact difficult to “reengage” another party if they choose to ignore everything you say, and focus intently upon their own personal agendas.
It is inaccurate to mislead the American people into believing the Bush Administration has formed a howler out of the Global War on Terror (GWOT). Furthermore, language condemning the United States coming from a presidential candidate should never be accepted in any form. “We must lead the world by demonstrating the power of our ideals, not by stoking fear about those who do not share them,” says Edwards.
Edwards also states in the Foreign Affairs article, “Reengaging with the World: A Return to Moral Leadership,” that the War in Iraq is “one of the greatest strategic failures in US history.” This statement could be discounted as partisan politics in a flourishing democracy, but the continued statements implicate that the US has been defeated and needs to cut and run the other way out of the dessert, and that is absolutely false. Think of the message this sends our enemies! Think of the message this sends the American people. It is the wrong move for politicians to disrespect the office of the President of the Untied States (POTUS) and it should not be tolerated.
The Democratic Party's Presidential campaigns could confuse the American people into believing falsehoods or politically driven statements as fact.
Democrats in Congress have not delivered on substantial issues, and have bogged down and blocked and produced nothing but an arrogant campaign against President Bush?
