Cuban President Fidel Castro says the American naval base in Guantanamo Bay is 'illegally' coccupied and the US must hand it over to Cuba. Castro called the base a constant center of crisis, which threatens Cuba's security.
Press TV reports that according to international laws, the United States' occupation of Guantanamo Bay Naval Base is illegal and unacceptable. So says Fidel Castro on Friday. Castro called the base a constant center of crisis, which threatens Cuba's security.

Castro talked about the Cuban missile crisis and how US President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev along with the UN Secretary-General had agreed to remove their nuclear missiles from Cuba. Then he echoed remarks that had been made by Cuban officials in 2000:

"any part of Cuban soil occupied by foreign countries should be returned".

Over 400 prisoners from 40 different countries have been incarcerated in the Guantanamo Bay detainment camp since 2002, accused of being al-Qaeda and Taliban operatives. The conditions are inhumane and they have not had any official trial, which of course is a violation of human rights.

The question is, if Cuba sends them packing, on what continent or island are they going to torture and hide people on?

In November of 2003, international law expert Professor Alfred de Zayas, from the University of British Colombia, gave a lecture on the state of the detainees held at Guantanamo Bay. The lecture began with him outlining four main ways in which the lease and the treaty that created it can only be described as illegal.

The "International Law Compliance Forum" declared U.S. facilities at Guantanamo Bay to be an illegal occupation of Cuban territory as well.

What will Cuba do about it?
