SpiralFrog to have 1.5 Million Tracks Available Free at Launch

by RobotGod.
SpiralFrog.com is an ad-supported Web site that allows visitors to download music and videos free of charge, Testing of its service has started, with plans to launch by the end of the year.
techomg reports that the NY based company has begun allowing a certain number of users in North America access to try out the site.

Currently, there are about 700,000 tracks available for downloading and they plan to expand the beta testing in a few weeks. After they get feedback from users and record labels etc., they will launch in Canada and America.

“We’re really testing the user experience to make sure it satisfies the needs of demanding young consumers,” Mohen said.

People can download music and and video tracks free of charge. Their requirement is that you register and log in once a month in order to continue to play the content, which is free but copy protected.

Users are exposed to ads while browsing the site, while they wait for the content to download.

You can't burn them to CD's, but you can put them on other devices. It's not compatible with the Ipod of macs.

Sounds very interesting. After obtaining more rights from publishers, they are now ready to go. It will be interesting to see where it leads. Users are basically paying with their time.
