Barry Bombs Away

"And Bonds hits one hard. Hits it deep! It is outta here! 756! Bonds stands alone! He is on top of the all-time home run list. What a special moment for Barry Bonds. And what a special moment for these fans here in San Francisco."
Duane Kuiper caught the moment just about right. It was the 5th inning, I had just tuned in and what timing. I'm glad it's over, but not for the reasons as everyone else. The rest of the world is just glad it's over because now they can go back to not having to care about Barry Bonds. I on the other hand am happy for Barry.
I know what you're thinking. How can this guy sit there and cheer for this cheater, this jerk? It's easy, I don't know Barry Bonds, he has never been a jerk to me. Barry tells the media how it is, for that he is a jerk. He's a jerk because he doesn't answer all of their questions or because they don't like his answers. Well the media needs to get over them selves. I cheered for Bonds as he rounded the bases, and I was happy to see him do it.
I'm sure he took steroids, but so did everyone else in baseball. And it annoys me that Bud Selig, possibly the worst commissioner in history, sits there with such disdain towards Bonds when he turned a blind eye to the whole situation in the '90's. In my mind, Bug Selig is as much to blame as anyone in regards to baseball's problem with steroids. Selig could have done something, but with homers leaving the park a record pace and fans coming in through the turn stiles because of them, he sat on this thumbs.
For those who say, Bond's accomplishments mean nothing, he's a cheater. He has over
500 career stolen bases, he has 9 gold gloves and 7 MVP awards. I doubt very much that the steroids helped him become a better defender. I'm sure the steroids didn't help him steal the 500+ bases of which most came early in his career. In fact, he is the only player in baseball history with 500 home runs and 500 stolen bases.
Can it be proven that steroids helped Bonds recognize the difference between a 90+ mph fastball and a 90+ mph slider, a sinker from a curve ball in the matter of a second? Did steroids help Bonds with the timing of his swing? I don't think steroids had anything to do with that.
Bonds is possibly one of the greatest players in the history of this game. It's only fitting that Willie Mays, who many claim as the greatest player to ever play this game, was there to cheer on his god son, Barry Bonds as the new Home Run King.
