According to the Washington Times, the CNN/YouTube debate looks like it's going to happen. It's still listed for September 17th on the YouTube website, but sources in the Times article say it's more likely to take place in November or December.
Initially only Senator McCain and Congressman Paul had indicated they would attend the debate. Former Governor Romney showed his egalitarian deficiency by indicating he wouldn't deign to answer questions from a snowman as the Democrats had. He's now backed away from that position and says it's only the scheduling that keeps him from debating in September.
Former Governors Thompson and Huckabee plan to participate. Former Mayor Guiliani has hinted that he'll attend. The Times article says that conservative bloggers seem to have had a major role in getting the candidates to come around. A site called Save the Debate sent a letter to each candidate who hadn't signed on to the debate and conservative bloggers have wrote reams about the subject.
The most interesting part to me is how many of the 10 candidates will still be in the running by the time the YouTube debate happens. Sunday's debate in Iowa seemed to be a farewell tour for some of the third tier candidates, particularly if they don't do well in this Saturday's Iowa Straw Poll. My guess is you won't see Congressman Hunter on the stage, and maybe Congressman Tancredo and Senator Brownback will be missing as well.
