Op-Ed: Why we eat too much.

by Bob Ewing.
There is no question that in North America many people are overweight. This includes not only adults but children as well. Why? That is what this site explores. While we are responsible for our own choices are there many other factors at work.
Brian Wansink, Ph.D., the author of Mindless Eating says that we overeat not because were are hungry but because of external influences. For example, family and friends, packages and plates, names and numbers, labels and lights, colors and candles, shapes and smells, distractions and distances, cupboards and containers all play a role int he amount of food that we consume.

In the short video that accompanies this article Wansink briefly discusses children and obesity. In particular Wansink focuses on the role that parents play in what and how a child eats.

Do you find yourself eating even when you are not hungry? Is that chocolate cake just too difficult to resit eve though you have just had a big meal? Is dessert really necessary after ever meal? and what is your idea of a great dessert?
