article image7 Legged Lamb Born In New Zealand

The seven-legged lamb was born along with a "twin" in New Zealand. Doctors and Veterinarians will now have to decide whether it would be more humane to put the animal to sleep or allow it to live.
We've seen alot of strange animal stories here at Digital Journal over the last year. I remember the story of
"Mary Kate & Ashley" the two headed turtle
The two-headed reptile fossil found in China
The Five-Legged Frogs that were found near a river in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire from about 3 months ago...
We even heard about a two-headed woman that had DJ users wondering if the story was a fake or not (turned out to be true).
Now, I bring you "Leggy the Lamb" (my own pet-name for the little creature) the seven-legged lamb born in New Zealand that has shocked doctors and vets.
The lamb was born along with a "twin" who did not share the multi-leg deformity and was only noticed when it started attempting to stand.'I didn't think there was anything wrong until I went back later in the day and saw it struggling to get up,' Mr Callaghan told the Ashburton Guardian. The lamb was taken to Canterbury where Steve Williams, a veterinarian said he believes it had been a 'misprint in embryo formation' that caused the lamb to be born a polydactyl - a condition which occurs once in several million sheep.
Some may say this makes this animal special but Williams went on to say that it would probably be more inhumane to allow the lamb to live than to put it to sleep, so "Leggy the Lamb" may be put to rest sooner than later.
