article imageRumsfeld Appears Before Tillman Hearing - Watch Live

Former Defense Sec. Donald Rumsfeld and several other governmen officials stand before the House this morning facing questions about how and exactly when the government knew that Army Ranger Cpl. Pat Tillman's death was the result of friendly fire.
A wide array of top government officials (some retired) appeared today before the a House hearing, answering questions about the death of Pat Tillman.
Pat Tillman was an American football player who in 2002 forfeited a multimillion dollar contract and left his professional sports career to join the Army. Tillman was killed in action in Afghanistan and the story made headlines all over the country.
At first the news sources and the government reported that Tillman had been killed during an ambush by enemy soldiers and was the only U.S. soldier to die in the attack. Later it was discovered that he was actually killed by friendly fire and military officials as well as members of the U.S. government had performed a "cover up" to hide the fact that Tillman's life had been taken by accident by one of our own soldiers.
From a report by Washingtonpost.com in 2004:
Tillman, 27, was killed when the combat patrol unit he was serving in was ambushed by militia forces near the village of Spera, about 90 miles south of Kabul, the Afghan capital. Tillman was hit when his unit returned fire, according to officials at the Pentagon. He was medically evacuated from the scene and pronounced dead by U.S. officials at approximately 11:45 a.m. Thursday. Two other U.S. soldiers were injured and one Afghan solider fighting alongside the U.S. troops was killed.
Rumsfeld was just asked excatly when and how he learned about the true nature of Tillman's death to which he replied "I do not recall..."
As a person having a younger brother currently serving in the Army and stationed in Iraq I am very curious to see how our government will react to questions about their knowledge of this cover story about Tillman's death. I hope that at the very least they will be respectful and not just totally distant themselves with answers like "I don't recall" to every question.
