article imageApple Store to Begin Charging Entrance Fee

If you just want to see an iPhone at an Apple store, you better bring some cash. They will be charging a $5 fee just to enter. Their excuse? Large amounts of people coming to see the iPhone.
My reaction? It's just another excuse to charge the customer.

According to BBspot you can expect a positive reaction from customers. To this I say: WTF?
"Part of the move was to limit crowds to keep the stores safe, but also we wanted to keep the right kind of people in the stores," said vice president of retail outlets, Vince Sciopiano. "By 'right kind of people' I mean true Apple customers with money, willing to pay just to look at our newest wares."
They say that it insures that Apple gets the right kind of customer in their store. The kind with money who want to buy.

For your $5 "toll" they give you a shiny crap trinket. An apple button that allows them inside and will track the customer's movements.(Steve "orwell" Jobs, anyone?) And the $5 can be applied toward a purchase on the next visit.

Great so if you go to browse, they are hoping you buy something and fee gets suckers back in the store for another purchase.

They say the reaction was positive in a CA. store.(Is the gene pool that polluted? For real?)

One customer was a little hipper.
Not everyone was pleased though. Kyle Martin said, "Five dollars to just walk into the store? It's like they want to be elite snobs or something."
What a way to pay back loyal customers who have overpaid a TON for your products in the past. Muse has one thing to say.

Apple, you suck.

I am so glad I have always stayed away from their products. And this kind of thing is why.

pathetic. Simply pathetic. Like apple wasn't making enough money allready but now they must also charge 5 dollars just to see the bloody phone. hahah thats to funny........
If i were apple i would invest that 5 dollars they get from "rich people" and help to find a cure for aids. Instead of using the money to generate another product that will please they public eye untill the current product has exceeded its usefullness.

Before you jump on me for starting trouble...I looked this up because I actually NEED to buy a new laptop (see another post about e-card virus destroying current laptop), and was interested in a Mac. I found this link, saying that the fee is a joke/hoax:
    http://crunchgear.com/2007/07/23/apple-charges-5-to-enter-apple-store-actually-no-it-doesnt-its-a-joke/

The info says that BBspot is a "parody website". So is this fee all in fun, or is it legit?

Well if that is true, they should have a disclaimer somewhere on the page I would think. Oh well. It sounds like a move that apple would make anyway. I stand by the fact that apple sucks.

Why do you feel Apple "sucks"? Is it the product, the customer service, what?

I've always heard great things from other Mac owners, so after years of frustration trying to figure what stupid error messages mean, I was thinking of making the switch. Am I wrong? I mean, I'm only dropping a nice chunk of change on a new laptop, I don't want to make a bad choice!

I hate how they are so trendy and the prices are outrageous. For instance, years ago when the ipod came out, what was it like $600 I think...I bought a better one with far more gigs of memory fort under $300.

They inflate the prices because of these people out there who are so brand loyal and have to have every mac or iThing out there. That's my main problem with them. I have never owned a Mac though so I cant say there. But I think PC's are far more versatile.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely a price-conscious shopper and not very brand-loyal, so I just need something that works for me. I guess I'll keep checking and find what makes the most sense.
