Brain Teaser: History Trivia about the Sound Barrier
by barryb.
This is another one out of the book A Haircut in Horse Town and Other Great Car Talk Puzzlers by Tom and Ray Magliozzi of Car Talk and you don't need any math skills. Just a little science and history.
Man has been able to faster than the speed of sound since
Captain Charles Yeager flew to fame in 1947.
Before that we had inventions that could go faster than the speed of sound (bullets for example) but what was the first man made invention to break the sound barrier?
I guess I should qualify this one with a 'that we know of' because any time we talking about history there could be information we are not aware of, things weren't always well documented in times gone by.
So I guess this week's question is: to the best of our knowledge, what was the first man made invention to break the sound barrier?
As usual I will post the answer in a few days.
Happy Thinking!
