Fierce in the face of danger. Mini warrior, Zoey a 5 pound Chihuahua faced down a rattlesnake and almost loses her life as she throws herself into it's path as it strikes at one-year-old baby Booker West.
Booker was outside with his grandfather playing and splashing in the birdbath in the yard in Masonville.
Unbeknownst to all, they were in the way of a rattlesnake about to strike Booker. The snake rattled it's tail and struck at the baby when Zoey threw herself into the path of danger.
Zoey was struck and let out a yelp in pain, Grandpa Monty alerted to the danger scooped up the baby and got him out of harms way.
(Zoey) took the bite for him,” he said. “If I hadn’t been paying attention to her yipe telling me something was wrong, (Booker) would have been next.
Zoey was struck and took multiple bites to the face and head. Her face swelled to almost grapefruit sized as she was taken to the veterinarian’s office. She received antivenin and morphine shots and was in dire danger of losing her life.
But the 1 year-old blond Chihuahua pulled through. As a result of almost losing her eye as well as her life she now carries a scar that runs vertically across her head.
Once (Zoey) could see (after the swelling went down),” she was following Booker around,” Denise said. “She had snake on her mind.”
Heroes come in many sizes as this little hero has proven with her bravery.
These little bitty dogs, they just don’t really get credit,” Denise said. “It’s usually the big dogs. ... Chihuahuas are protective, but she’s on the sweet side, too."
