Lose that is. It seems to me that Sergio Garcia is finding all kinds of new and exciting ways to lose a major golf championship. After leading this year's British Open from day one, Sergio woke up this Sunday hoping that the third time was the charm.
The 27-year-old Spaniard has played in the final pairing of two other major championships, the 2002 US Open and last year's British Open, and this year, he had dominated the tournament from day one. Sergio had a three-stroke lead heading into Sunday's action with Tiger in his rear view mirror, eight strokes behind.
All he had to do on the 18th hole was make an eight foot putt for par to win the championship. He missed, forcing a playoff with Padraig Harrington, which Garcia eventually lost on the fourth playoff hole.
Harrington, who was six shots behind Garcia going into the final round, shot a four-under 67 on Sunday, compared to Garcia's two-over 73, and the pair were tied after four rounds at 277 each.
So instead of the Spaniard celebrating his first major championship, it was a 35-year-old Irishman who won his first major, and this was also first win by an "European" at the British Open in eight years.
