Fortunately, the driver of a fuel tanker that overturned on the Modderfontein road, near the Tembisa offramp at 10.00am this morning, was only slightly injured, according to ER24 spokesperson, Werner Vermaak.
Although the accident, which happened at a very busy intersection, must have brought traffic to a virtual standstill for quite a while, luckily, no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The hazardous materials technicians were on the scene to prevent the petrol from entering storm water drains, but their presence did not stop hundreds of commuters from stopping, with any type of container they could find, filling them up with fuel.
And not because the environment was their first concern!
