A woman, whose face and head were covered with bandannas, walked into a Library in Ft. Smith Arkansas and handed a librarian a note implying that she had a weapon and the librarian had one minute to comply.
Her theft yielded less than $20 from the till, which is used for fines for overdue library books. She's described as tall and light-skinned.
"We're kind of wondering, why would anybody do this?," [Ft. Smith Police officer Vincent] Clamser said.
If caught, she faces felony robbery charges which may be elevated to aggravated robbery.
This apparently isn't the first unusual crime in Ft. Smith of late, safes from 3 restaurants have also been stolen as well as a bank. There was also a sandwich shop robbery last week in which the thief proved easy to catch -- he did a quick clothing change in front of a surveillance camera. Ft. Smith Police also caught a man in May who was wanted for a bank robbery, by posting a description of him on Myspace.
Let this be a lesson to would-be thieves -- if you're going to rob the library, steal the books. They're worth more than you're likely to get out of the till.
