Twenty years ago Lori Haas put a baby boy up for adoption. Last year armed with the boy's name she started searching the Internet for him. In May she decided the cool Facebook site and found him the first time she entered his name.
At first she didn't contact her son Travis Sheppard because there was another person in the photo on his profile page. A week later Travis changed the photo to one of just himself. Haas knew for sure then that Travis was her long lost son so she decided to email him.
Meanwhile Travis had begun to search for his birth mother. He had left Winnipeg to track her down in Vancouver. He read the email of July 2, 2007.
"When I first read message, I wasn't sure who it was who sent me the message. As soon as I clicked on her profile, though I knew without a doubt it was her," Sheppard said.
They met face to face a day later at a local restaurant. Since then they have stayed in contact.
"I am so complete," said Haas. "Right now, it's just so comfortable between the two of us. I just can't wait to keep learning more about him."
They both have new Facebook profile pictures. One that features the two of them smiling.
