Burned cat clings to life; Girls charged

By RobotGod     Jul 19, 2007 in Crime
Two teenage girls set a cat on fire and it is now clinging to life at the Sonoma County animal hospital. The kitten had to have two surgeries and had its tail and the tips of its ears amputated.
Only raw tissue remained on it's back, the skin having been burnt off completely.
"The degree of injury is greater than our normal level of trauma that we care for," said Katheryn Hinkle, the head veterinarian and owner of the Animal Hospital of Cotati. "He's our most critical patient, and we're watching him constantly."
It was one of several feral kittens that had been trapped for spaying and neutering, in a cage. The 2 15 year olds thought it would be funny to pour flammable liquid on it and set it on fire.
An 11 year old boy saw smoke and heard the cat's cries while the 2 idiot girls laughed. They were charged with cruelty to animals.
The cat will need several more surgeries to cover it's back with skin. Until then it is more open to infection.
