Loire Estuary 2007, an outdoor contemporary art exhibit is taking place in France right now. The art of 30 artists from around the world is featured. Featured along a 40 mile stretch of the Loire River.
The rubber duck is sure to be a favorite. Who doesn't love a giant rubber duck floating in a river? It measures 26 x 20 x 32 meters. It was constructed using rubber coated PVC, pontoon and a generator. Of course it is inflatable.
This is from the artist's site:
A yellow spot on the horizon slowly approaches the coast. People have gathered and watch in amazement as a giant yellow Rubber Duck approaches. The spectators are greeted by the duck, which slowly nods its head. The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate people and doesn't have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relief mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!
What other wonders await the visitor? We can only imagine. Personally I would like to go inside of the ducky and drive it around. Maybe into the ocean, like some demented rogue sub commander, hunting other duckys.
