Police in Cartagena Columbia discovered 560 pounds of cocaine packed into the recesses in a grand piano that was part of a shipment of household goods en route from Bogoda to Panama.
Agents decided to tap a few keys on the piano after noticing that it was suspiciously heavy. When the sound quality seemed strange, they opened the piano and discovered an estimated $5 million worth of cocaine.
Authorities were investigating, but had made no arrests.
That's an awful lot of cocaine. I can't help but wonder if people attempt to smuggle cocaine in quantities like that all the time, or if the person who filled the piano with coke is just an idiot. As awful as the drug aspect is, I can't help but think that it makes better business sense to pack $5 million worth of cocaine in several various "containers" shipped separately. So you don't lose so much at once. That said, I hope they manage to find arrest and convict the person responsible -- one down, many to go.
