Drunken man calls 9-1-1 on cops
by shoyu.
The police were puzzled when a drunken man called 9-1-1 while standing in front of them. The man was charged with misdemeanor misuse of 9-1-1 and could go to jail for a year. No word on whether he was brandishing an iPhone.
You know you’re drunken when you call 9-1-1 to tell the dispatcher you’re surrounded by police.
Dana Farrell Shelton of Largo, Fla. asked a dispatcher for help Sunday. Police were there in response to a disturbance call. They saw nothing and told Shelton to move along. That’s when Shelton called 9-1-1.
"Our officers were standing there scratching their heads. He called, standing there in their presence,” Largo Sgt. Melanie Holley said. “It’s one of our ’truth is stranger than fiction’ cases."
Shelton was charged with misdemeanor misuse of 9-1-1. The charge carries maximum penalties of one year in jail and $1,000 in fines.
Apparently, alcohol and cell phones don’t mix.
