article imageBP to dump more toxins in Lake Michigan

By RobotGod     Jul 15, 2007 in World
A large Indiana BP oil refinery is planning on pouring alot more industrial sludge and ammonia in Lake Michigan. Years of effort has gone into cleaning up the lakes, so what gives?
Well, BP was exempted from environmental laws so a $3.8 billion expansion would let BP refine heavier Canadian crude oil. Their justification was that the project will create 80 new jobs.
It's interesting to note that BP markets itself as environmentally friendly, despite the fact that they are already one of the largest polluters along the Great Lakes.(Does the BP stand for Bullshit Propaganda?)Under the new state water permit, BP can release 54 percent more ammonia and 35 percent more sludge into Lake Michigan every day. Ammonia promotes algae blooms that can kill fish and the sludge is dense with heavy metals, the newspaper reported. In what universe is this a good idea? I thought companies were getting greener. Not BP apparently. The CEO's should be made to swim in their sludge.
