The Republican Party ended slavery and that they are for equal rights and have no biases. Despite the rumors that Republicans are money driven and power hungry, Comfort says some of his wealthiest friends are Democrats.
Both major political parties use coalitions to get their message across. They help get candidates elected, register voters, perform grassroots campaigning, do mailers, put on phone banks, and help raise funds.
The Clark County Republican Party gets a lot of help from coalitions. Their success during the last campaign came in large part to these coalitions. One particular coalition, The Republican Men’s Club, has made a lot of head way over the past few years as their membership has grown.
I had the opportunity to interview their President, Dr. Chris Comfort, on Face the Tribune back on June 30th.
Dr. Comfort, a practicing Las Vegas Dentist, is proud of his membership, now over 530 members and climbing. Comfort stated that the Nevada Republican Men's Club provides a forum for Republican candidates at their monthly lunch meeting.
The Nevada Republican Men's Club is made up of a group of like-minded individuals. Members must pay a small annual fee are registered Republicans who are active in their community. All meetings are held at Lawry's the first Monday of every month.
Dr. Comfort explains that the club was established in 1974 emphasizes that membership is open to all genders as full members. Today, 40% of the club is made up of women.
He believes that the other coalitions should allow all genders to climb through the ranks, not just as an associate member, but as members that have full rights and can vote and hold elected positions.
Dr. Comfort shows great appreciation to new State Party Chairman Sue Lowden, stating he has confidence that she will bring the State GOP to the forefront. He says Lowden has a documented history with the Legislature and has proven herself to the state of Nevada.
Dr. Comfort encourages all Republicans to join his Coalition to brand Southern Nevada as Republican territory. He feels strongly that the Republican Party has the best interests of the people in mind.
He discussed how the Republican Party ended slavery and that they are for equal rights and have no biases. Despite the rumors that Republicans are money driven and power hungry, Comfort says some of his wealthiest friends are Democrats.
Dr. Comfort explains that a Republican is one who lives the American dream and pursues it based on ones own individual efforts while Democrats wants to live beyond the local safety net and expect the government to provide it.He is proud of that fact that more than half his members are veterans.
When we discussed the 2006 Nevada State Treasurers Race, Comfort believed that had former Nevada State Controller Kathy Augustine not been murdered, she would have won the election.
However, with Clark County Republican Central Committee elections scheduled for this month, Dr. Comfort stated that the Nevada Men's Club’s policy is to stay neutral in any Republican primary election.
Comfort says that the Democratic Presidential candidates scare him. A Democratic president would turn back the clock twenty years on this countries social policy if they were to regain the White House according to Comfort.
He sees Democrat Al Gore as a real threat if he decides to enter the Presidential race and would like to see Rudy Giuliani victorious in the Presidential election.
Comfort elaborated on health care and feels that the current health care system is inadequate. It is something he wants to take a long look at as he considers taking his political career to the next step. Comfort has formed an exploratory committee looking into running against Democratic United States Senator Harry Reid and others.
