Police tracked down a 12-year-old boy after he shot his father in their Eastpointe, Michigan home and rode off on his bicycle. He is now in custody while the matter is under investigation.
Fred Farmer called 911 right after his young son shot him yesterday. He told the operator that he had been shot and was wounded in two places.
After the boy shot his dad in the chest and arm he took off on his bike and ditched the gun on the balcony of an apartment near his home.
When police caught up with the child he told the cops that his dad abused him and that was why he shot him. He said he got the gun from some other family.
Mr. Farmer told police that he was just trying to control an out-of-control child.
Mr. Farmer is in the hospital recovering from the serious wounds inflicted by his son.
"Pretty unusual and tragic. Father and son lived together in the home alone. At this time we don't know what prompted the shooting," Inspector John Calabrese said.
Later today the prosecutors for this case will decide if charges will be filed and what those charges will be.
