GrandCentral is a unique service that is available online to manage all your telephone numbers in one place. Once you become a member of GrandCentral, it assigns you a personal phone number, which you can use it for life.
GrandCentral calls it One Number...for LifeTM - a number that's not tied to a phone or a location - but tied to you. So, you can give this number to anyone and don’t worry about getting Spam Calls, which you can easily block it at GrandCentral. Google officially purchased GrandCentral today, so you will see more features added to it free or for a small service fee. But for now it is free.
So, if you have a mobile phone, office phone, home phone, instead of getting the messages lost or which number you should focus more, you can just give one phone number to everyone. With that phone number, the callers can leave a message for you to return the call. GrandCentral either calls your main phone number (Stored in GrandCentral account) and connects you to the person or notifies you via e-mail about the call you received, so you can answer by screening the calls. This message is recorded and is available online in your GrandCentral Account online. You can either save it or delete it. There is a “call” button after the message, so when you want to talk the person, GrandCentral connects you (wherever you are) to the person that left a message.
Here are the main features of GrandCentral:
* Check your messages by phone, email, or online
* Keep all your messages online for eternity
* Record and store your phone calls (just like voicemail)
* Quickly (and secretly) block an annoying caller
* Click-to-dial from your address book
* Surprise your callers with a custom voicemail greeting
* Forward, download, and add notes to your messages
This free version will include unlimited inbound minutes, unlimited voicemail (up to 30 days old), and access to all of the main features of GrandCentral. You can use this personal number on your business card and can keep in touch with all of your friends, family, customers, and co workers without a problem. And don’t have to worry about changing the phone number, even if you change mobile services or you move out of your current location.
Currently it is available only in the US; it will soon be available for other countries. This is what GrandCentral says about the International phone number option:
As we expand internationally, we will give you the option to pick an international GrandCentral number or forward calls to international numbers.
You can see how the GrandCentral works from the video here.
I tested it, it works awesome and seamless between the phones. It has excellent recording option, it sounds better than your answering machine messages. I have a few invitations for this Google GrandCentral, so, if you need an invitation, send me a message with your first name and last name and e-mail address. I have 8 invites available.

I don't trust this at all. By accepting this offer you are giving GrandCentral way too much control over you. That one number is used as a link to all of your other services therefore, if GrandCentral decides to cut you off, then you are in major trouble. The service is free for now. But once you're hooked and once they have "your number" they can charge you as much as they like because then they will own you. Don't you see that or am I the only one?

Thanks, it is owned by Google now, I doubt they will start charging, but maybe later for the calls made from GrandCentral. For example if you are online and want to return the call, then they may charge, but for receiving calls they don't charge or having a unique phone number. I have been using this since the beginning, I am really glad I got this because it helps me to avoid spam and I don't have to worry about sharing this phone number online. I use three phones, so having a single number helps me a lot managing the calls. You can give it a try and if you don't like it, you can cancel.

I am sorry, but they can change their rules and their policies at any time and start charging you for their service which for now is free. Why do you think that it is free? Do you actually think it will remain so? I'm sorry, but I still stand by what I said and I will not give it a try. "Never put all your eggs in one basket."

Google so far has not charged any for GMail, Google Docs, Google Pages, so I am sure they will have this free also, they are making money differently, this is just convenience for the customers online. I am sure if they charge the customers will leave and they will get a bad name. It is good for Spam, if somebody that calls you unauthorized, you can easily prevent it. That is the reason I am using for online purposes, so it serves my needs. If this service is owned by AT&T, Microsoft, I think your fears are understandable, but no worries if you have doubts about this service.

You seem to think that things always stay the same. You don't think that perhaps they might sell out to AT&T or Microsoft or whatever corporation buys into it? You haven't noticed what happened when cable first became available? You haven't noticed how you are getting much less for your money than when they first offered this service? You don't recall the free channels which you now you need to pay for? You don't see where this is leading? What often begins as free eventually becomes very expensive once the consumer has become dependent upon that service and needs it. You say the service offers you protection from spam. Yes, now they do and now it's free but there will come a time when you will have to pay for it. And there will come a time when you will have to pay for your own number once they have your number! All I see here is a bunch of sheep who are so easily led. Is that due to good marketing? Perhaps they already have your number! And by you, I mean all of you! You want to be own and controlled by another corporation, that's your business. I don't! And I won't!

Oh, yeah, let me remind you, internet radio was once free too and have you taken any notice as to what has been going on with that?

There is always a possibility of misusing the information. We already are giving away our e-mail address and personal information in the web, all we need is one punk to sell it, so if they want to exploit us, they are going to. GrandCentral has my three numbers which I combine as one number now. If they charge, I will send to the list of my contacts about the change, yes it will be inconvenient but it will be same when we move to a different location with a different address or number, so I don't see the problem. Since nobody is forcing you here, so if you don't like it fine, but I just use it because it offers me convenience. I buy a lot in the Internet, I use Google Checkout which provides only the address, not the credit card information, no e-mail or phone numbers, even if they require a phone number, I give my GrandCentral phone number, so they can't misuse it. My close friends have my personal number, all others who don't need to know my number, I give my GrandCentral number. If they begin to charge in the future, if it is reasonable I will keep it, if not I will tell my friends and contacts about the change.
Internet Radio, I listen to Last.fm so far it is free, if not there are 1000s of radio stations broadcasting free to iTunes, so no problems there.
