John McCain's presidential campaign suffers yet another blow as both manager and chief strategist leave the struggling campaign... The question is did they quit or were they fired?
WASHINGTON - John McCain's campaign takes another large hit. Not only is he running out of money and trailing badly in the polls but his staff is now starting to leave the campaign. The recent departure of both his manager and chief strategist is no doubt a harsh blow to the candidates hopes for taking the election.
But did they quit or were they fired?
Terry Nelson, McCain's now ex-campaign manager released a statement saying that he was stepping down immediately followed by John Weavers announcement that he too was leaving. Other anonymous officials from the campaign have stated that Nelson was fired.
No matter the conditions of their leaving, they are now gone and say they wil continue to support McCain in the race.
"It has been a tremendous honor to serve Senator McCain and work on his campaign," Nelson said. "I believe John McCain is the most experienced and prepared candidate to represent the Republican Party and defeat the Democratic nominee next year."
Weaver said: "It has been my honor and a distinct privilege to serve someone who has always put our country first. I believe that most Americans will come to the conclusion that I have long known there is only one person equipped to serve as our nation's chief executive and deal with the challenges we face, and that person is John McCain."
McCain's campaign headquarters has "gone quiet" refusing to answer any questions or release any statements other than those that have already been released. No person on McCain's staff is available for comment, including congressional surrogates.
So the questions remains... was Nelson fired or did he quit? Will the "changing of the guard" help boost the candidate's chances or is it too late? Time will only tell and I'm sure you will hear the latest here at DJ.
