When August rolls around Toronto will be seeing something different when they walk outside. The hot dog vendors will be battling it out with vendors offering healthier alternatives to the noon meal time crunch.
While an occasional portion of street meat is not going to kill you daily dog consumption isn't the best for your heart or your belly. Have no fear! We can still get a quick bite to eat and maybe get even more culture thrown into the mix.



We say goodbye to the sausage, hello to the samosa," Health Minister George Smitherman said yesterday in announcing regulatory changes. "We say today goodbye to street meat, hello to more salads."


This time next month you will have to choose from samosas, pizzas and burritos or fruit and salads. Fresh squeezed OJ and lemonade. In the mood for a smoothie? You should be able to find it. The street will have more of a food court flair.



"It's fantastic to be able to have calamari fritti in one place, a little bruschetta in the other. It adds variety," Massimo Capra, executive chef at Mistura restaurant said. "If everyone brought one cart with one particular dish, hey, I would be out every day walking."
