So what you say? Lot's of children have their first birthdays and don't make the news! What's so special about these two? Well read on as these two little girls are a "million to one!"
As these two precious little ones celebrate their first birthday, one thing is definitely clear; they are not identical. But they do have similarities that you can clearly see: curly hair, big eyes, and small noses. These two girls are a million to one phenomenon that only two parents of different races can possibly achieve.
You see Mom is clearly white while Dad is clearly black. Mom gave birth to the twins, fraternal twins and each of these little sweeties share the skin tone of both parents: one is clearly white while the other is clearly black.
"People have said that it's one of those unusual things to do with the genes. It's very rare that it happens - a one-in-a-million chance. They are both well cherished."
In fraternal twins, two eggs are fertilized by two separate sperm, and we all know that sperm carries the most defining characteristics that each embryo develops. Things like hair colour, skin colour, eye colour and other factors come out as the child grows up.
The interesting thing in this story is that both parents have a history of twins in the family and while Mom received IFV treatments, it is possible they would have had twins either way.
The rarity of this actually happening has not been recorded over the years. As one person said "recording the colour of the skin is not the politically correct thing to do".
This may be true, but it would have been a good statistic to record anyway. I mean how often does this happen?
