Ontario lottery retailers (such as convinience stores) will have to go through tougher security through Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to ensure that customers are entitled to a fair system
Ontario Lottery retailers have been claiming large wins in recent years after the CBC program the fifth estate did an investigation report. The investigative report showed corruption within the retailers and this in turn has made a lot of people lose trust in the system.
In an attempt to get back public trust, they have launched a number of security programs to ensure this does not happen again. Beginning next January, lottery retailers will have to register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
In order to make the system more secure all lottery retailers will have to go through background checks and must agree to an updated code of conduct. Once this happens the government will turn over control of lottery regulations to the AGCO which is a agency close to the government.
This will make the system more fair for customers, however they are still fears that the regulatory board will once again turn a blind eye to retailers that choose to do this in the future.
