article imageCar bomb defused in London

By Paul Wallis     Jun 29, 2007 in World
Police have confirmed that a car bomb was defused in London’s theatre district, near Piccadilly Circus. The car, referred to as a Mercedes, was found outside an American Express Foreign Exchange office.
It wasn’t exactly counterintelligence at work. The car was reportedly driven erratically, crashed into some garbage bins near a nightclub, and the door staff of the club reported it to police.
Using a luxury car as a car bomb is hardly standard technique. Reports so far are notable for their lack of official suggestion of a terrorist involvement, despite Britain’s current state of high alert for a terrorist attack nearing the anniversary of the London bombings two years ago.
