Fashion designer Liz Claiborne, whose styles became a cornerstone of career women's wardrobes in the 1970s and 1980s, has died.
She was 78 years old, and the cause of death is still unknown.
She was an icon for many! Liz Claiborne was founder of Liz Claiborne Inc. She started the business in 1976 along with husband Art Ortenberg and Leonard Boxer.
They wanted to create fashions for working women. Her style and design were loved by many. She was well respected in the fashion industry by many.
She hit big when she came out with her perfume as well as fashion bags.
Liz Claiborne had some controversy back in the 90's when she announced on a tv show that she doesn't make clothes for black women because their hips are too big.
It turned out to be false.
"In losing Liz Claiborne, we have not only lost the founder of our company, but an inspirational woman who revolutionized the fashion industry 30 years ago," said Bill McComb, CEO of Liz Claiborne, in a statement.
"Her commitment to style and design is ever present in our thinking and the way we work. We will remember Liz for her vision, her entrepreneurial spirit and her enduring compassion and generosity," he said.
