Kidnapped BBC journalist Alan Johnston is being shown on a new video fitted with a bomb belt. The condemned video footage shows Johnston wearing a suicide bomber-style explosives belt.
Ismail Haniyeh said in a speech to Gaza that the kidnappings must stop. They are harming the Palestinians in how the world views them. The footage has not been publicly aired but shows the 45 year old reporter outfitted with the same type of explosives that Palestinian suicide bombers wear.
The Foreign Office is demanding Johnston's release.
On March 12th the BBC journalist was abducted at gunpoint from his Gaza City office. He has not been seen since except for on videos that the kidnappers have released. The group behind the kidnapping is calling themselves The Army of Islam.
An FCO spokeswoman said: "We condemn the continued release of videos like this which can only add to the distress of Alan Johnston's family and friends. They have not seen Alan for over 14 weeks. Those holding Alan should release him."
She added: "We remain in very close touch with Alan's family and the BBC and we are in close contact with the relevant people in the Palestinian territories."
