No hand holding, hugging, or high fives are allowed at a Fairfax County, Virginia school. There is a zero-tolerance touching policy. Parents are trying to get them to reconsider it.
The rule was put in place so the kids would feel safe, and comfortable in the crowded hallways and lunchroom.
Seventh-grader Hal Beaulieu, 13, almost ended up with detention when he put his arm around his girlfriend's shoulder. He was let off with a warning.
How many of you think this is going too far? Should this policy even have been approved? Or do you think this is actually a good thing and more schools should do the same?
I can see this only making the kids rebel. No high fives? C'mon....if someone is giving a high five, they are obviously happy, it isn't aggressive.
Kilmer Principal Deborah Hernandez said the no-touching rule is meant to ensure that all students are comfortable and crowded hallways and lunchrooms stay safe. She said school officials are allowed to use their judgment in enforcing the rule. Typically, only repeat offenders are reprimanded.
I wonder how long this will last for. I know kids are more aggressive nowadays but why do they have to go this far. It is almost like the should be in metal cages and not have any contact with anyone.
