article imageDog Found Barely Alive in Crate by Dumpster

By Laura Trowbridge     Jun 19, 2007 in Crime
Some cruel person left a mixed Labrador dog in a small crate covered with a blanket. They placed the crate next to a dumpster by a Blockbustrer Video store in Livonia, Michigan.
Employees from the video store found the dog and called police. Livonia police said the crate was so small the dog was unable to stand, and the crate was left on very hot concrete in 90-plus degree heat.
The dog was brought to Westland Humane Society. Upon examination she was found to be severely malnourished; had a skin rash so terrible that on first sight it looked like burns, but was just a bad rash from months of neglect; and an ear so torn it will need amputation.
The dog has been given the name of Hope. She is expected to recover from her ordeal and will be adopted out once she is well.
I cannot understand the mentality of people who do this kind of thing to an animal. If one doesn't want an animal it could be dropped off at a shelter. Even just turning the animal loose to fend for itself I suppose would be somewhat better than what this poor dog was put through.
