Peoria man faces prison for gang rape

20-year-old pleads guilty for his part in a carjacking and repeatedly sexually assaulting a woman in a brutal gang rape two years ago.
Deandre T. Baskin, 18, from Peoria, Illinois, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated criminal sexual assault in return for a maximum sentence of 36 years in prison. He was one of 4 that were charged with the attack. His DNA was found on the victim.
On February 2, 2005, a woman was driving home when a car pulled in front of her, slammed on its brakes and two men jumped out holding a BB gun.
She was ordered into the backseat of the car and was forced to give one of the men oral sex. They then drove the car to an alley where they sexually assaulted her. The men drove to an abandoned house afterwards where she was then sexually assaulted several more times at gun point and most of the assaults were done by more than one person at the same time.
After two or three hours later, they drove her home. The entire time she had a gun pointed to her head. They let her go and took her car. The police were called and the car reported stolen.
If that wasn't enough for them, they then pulled behind another woman to carjack her but they were spotted by the police.
They were chased by the police both in the car and also on foot.
The other men involved were Phillip M. Smith, 20, who pleaded guilty to the same charges in return for a maximum 40 year sentence. Smith said he was not involved in the carjacking and he chose not to sexually assault the victim because he felt it was wrong. His DNA was not found however the woman identified him as one of her attackers because of a partial physical description.
Ollie Giles, 20, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and the hijacking charge and was already sentenced to 24 years in prison. As part of a plea agreement the 4 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and kidnapping were dismissed.
Willie M. Wells, 19, has not had his trial yet. That is set for August 6. He is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, armed robbery, kidnapping and aggravated vehicular hijacking charges.
All 4 were charged with 4 Counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Armed Robbery and Kidnapping.
Deandre T. Baskin admitted he sexually assaulted the woman and he was also one of the two who jumped into her car.
Other sources are here and also the case file is here with pictures of the accused.
This time at least the courts are getting it right. They were not given a slap on the wrist. They are doing some serious jail time. I hope they do not get out on parole for many many years.
