article imageParis Hilton Now in Custody and Doing Time in Jail (With Video)

TMZ caught Paris Hilton showing up in a black SUV for her jail sentence at Men's Central Jail, in downtown Los Angeles. She now begins her 23-day sentence.
Upon arriving at the jail, the Sheriff let Hilton surrender miles from the jail to avoid the paparazzi. The jailbird was then driven to the jail in Lynwood where she will be serving out her whopping few-week sentence.
Before going to jail, Hilton attended the MTV Music Awards. After appearing on the red carpet, Hilton went to her parent’s home and then left with her mother, sister Nicky, and her lawyer to prison.
Also, prison officials told plans for Paris Hilton had changed — initially another woman was pre-screened to be Hilton's cellmate but instead officials said she will now be in solitary for 23 out of 24 hours every day. For the duration of the one hour she is out of her cell, she will be allowed to shower, use a phone and watch TV in a small pod adjacent to her prison cell. You can see her prison cell photos here.
Paris' lawyer just released a statement to TMZ from Hilton: I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. During the past few weeks, I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes.
Hilton also added: This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence.I think, if she follows what she says, this jail time will be good for her. She'll think twice before she does anything like this again. I think, and I hope, all other Hollywood stars will face the same scrutiny from now on. They can’t expect light punishment any more.
