Ebay made its official announcement that it has officially bought Stumbleupon for approximately $75 Million (USD). The amount of people stumbling on the internet is staggering.
If you have not yet heard about Stumbleupon, it is well worth checking out. It has grown in popularity, and for good reason -- it is a great way to waste some time finding out what is new out there, with relevant content.
Traffic driven to this site to spend hours of time surfing by clicking on a toolbar and hitting the 'stumble' button is in the millions. It is easy to see why it can be so addicting, with many people spending hours surfing the web and finding topics that they would like with just a click of a button.
If you don't believe me, take into consideration that eBay just bought out the company for 75 million dollars. What will become of Stumbleupon isn't quite clear yet, but as part of a press release, eBay senior director Michael Buhr said:
StumbleUpon is a great fit within our goal of pioneering new communities based on commerce and sustained by trust. StumbleUpon’s downloadable toolbar provides an engaging and unique experience to its users, but it is the similarities in our approaches to the concept of community that make it such a compelling addition to eBay.
As good as Stumbleupon is for finding a wide range of information on different topics, I can't see how it would fit in with actual eBay auctions, so it will be interesting to see what direction it will head.
