Alicia Ross's neighbor has been found guilty of second degree murder in her murder.
Daniel Sylvester,33, has been found guilty of 2nd degree murder in the murder of Alicia Ross, 25. He originally wanted to plead guilty to manslaughter but the judge would not allow it.
He turned himself in and admitted to killing her and showed the police where he hid her body. He said he did not mean to kill her but the jury thought otherwise. They believe he had some intent to killing her.
The trial was 3 weeks long but the jury was only out for 4 hours before returning with a guilty verdict.
He admitted to killing her after she called him a loser. He said he was by the walkway of her home when she was coming home after being with her boyfriend. She wanted to know what he was doing there, they had words and she called him a loser. He said he lost his temper, kneed her in the back and then struck her head repeatedly against the pavement.
He then took her body to the garage he stripped her naked from the waist down, put cardboard in the trunk of his car and put her in it. He then showered and changed his clothes and got in his car and took her body to Manila, Ontario to hide it. After the body was decomposing he then went back to move it to a better spot. He even lost the skull during one move.
When they found her body, it was very badly decomposed. They could not determine the exact cause of death but she had 33 fractures to her body. Most of her ribs were broken and her breastbone was cracked in the middle and several neck vertebrae were also broken. She had a broken nose and also a broken cheekbone.
He admitted to having fantasies about raping women and he would spy on his neighbors and neighbors at his family cottage.
He has been given a life sentence. The judge will determine how long before he is eligibile for parole. By law his parole ineligibility will be set anywhere between 10 and 25 years.
