Welcome to Abdullah the Butcher's House of Ribs & Chinese Food, a few miles northwest of the Atlanta airport.
After years of pro wrestling, he has a chain of ribs-and-Chinese eateries.
When I was younger my dad used to tell me about this crazy huge wrestler that used to squash everyone and stick forks in their foreheads. Not just forks, but tacks, and knives and screwdrivers, and not just their foreheads his as well.
His forehead is the proverbial "train tracks" head. "The Madman From Sudan," Abdullah the Butcher was FEARED by many. But just as most of us weird wrestling fans are, he was beloved by all. Ok maybe not beloved, he wasn't Andre, but alot of people liked him. Plus I did, so that counts more than most.
I have always wondered where he went. I hoped for a WWE cameo, or if Vince would call him up to the Hall of Fame as sort of a tribute to Indy Legend. He still does shows off an on, but now he has found a new life beyond the squared circle.
It's not just one restaurant, but a chain. A chain that ranges from the Dirty Dirty to Hollywood to South Korea. No doubt his Korean-Japanese mixed wife had a hand in that, as much as she helped come up with the entire BBQ & Chinese Food Mashup some 14 yrs ago.
Although he actually is a fellow Canuck, Toronto even, Lawrence Shreve, son of a Blackfeet Indian father and a black American mother. I will always know him as the big dude who bled more than he took blood, waved forks and stakes at people and had those crazy stares that scared the life out of you. I smile everytime I do.
That being said, damn BBQ & Chinese Food, he's a damn genius!!! I am so going to recreate that concept at summer BBQ's and hopefully get on up to the A.T.L.
