Google Maps add street view of locations so you can have a virtual walk through of streets.
Google recently launched Street View for Google Maps, which integrates a street level view into the map.
With this Street View, one can see the picture of the location as they browse through directions. Here is an example, streets in San Francisco. There is man figure in the map, just drag the man figure in the map; you will see what the street looks like. To get the Street View in the map, you have to click the “Street View” on the top right hand side of the map; otherwise it appears as regular map look. It will appear as below:
This technology was developed by Stanford University and later acquired by Google. It allows you to virtually drive down the streets. They provide a 3D Mapping to the images that gives a navigational type of experience.
Since this is a start, it is available only in San Francisco area, most of the streets in SOMA district. Once it is extended to all parts of the US and the world, it will give a great experience to see how the neighborhood looks like or to get familiar with the streets where we are heading to.
Google Maps also added 3-Dimensional mapping of buildings previously.
This is the beginning of things to come from Google Maps.
