As of about 10 AM today, Ron Paul has more YouTube subscribers than any other Presidential Candidate - Republican or Democrat!
As recently as yesterday, Obama led the field with 5,639 to Ron Paul's second place at 4,136. An apparent overnight surge in support for Paul has put him over the top this morning with 5,679. Supposed "front runner" Giuliani is a distant 7th with only 1,370.
While the number of YouTube subscribers does not constitute a scientific representation of a cross-section of the voting public, the sudden rise in support for Paul is especially telling in light of the controversy over Tuesday night's debate. During the debate, Paul mentioned his belief that retaliation for U.S. policy in the middle east had motivated the terrorists who attacked NY and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001.
This controversy has left many people wondering if "front runner" Giuliani had ever bothered to read either the official 9/11 Commission report or Osama bin Laden's own statement. Giuliani's ignorance of the causes of the 9/11 attacks have left many people wondering if he would be qualified to be President.
Paul's refusal to retract his statements at the debate, and his later expansion of his views in televised interviews on Fox and CNN have brought his candidacy to the attention of many people who had previously not been aware of him.
His name has been the number 1 search string on Technorati for the past week. A blog search for his name on Google this morning returned over 106,000 entries.
It's not an avalanche yet, but the snowball is starting to roll.
