article imageMichigan Prison On Lockdown After Stabbing And Plot Uncovered

By Laura Trowbridge     May 19, 2007 in Crime
Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia, Michigan was put on lockdown from Wednesday until Friday after an inmate was stabbed and a plot to stab a guard was uncovered.
The prison houses 1,888 inmates. Two of its medium security cellblocks, housing 480 prisoners, was on lockdown this week.
An inmate was stabbed Wednesday while he was in the exercise yard. He claimed he was being punished for not going along with a plot to stab a guard at the facility.
An investigation confirmed he was telling the truth. A subsequent cell search
uncovered seven knives that were hidden in the mattresses of some prisoners.
While charges have yet to be filed against the plotters, there have been several inmates that were taken to higher security prisons.
This is not the first trouble this year at the Bellamy Creek facility. In January an inmate was beaten to death by his cellmate in a medium security housing unit.
