Canadians can now find out at just six weeks if they should be buying pink or blue. DNA Worldwide, a British company, has been sending a test or two a week to the homes of expectant Canadians. A U.S. company also has a test on the market.
By simply pricking mommy's pinkie and sending the blood sample back, parents can find out at home within 4-6 days whether to name Junior after Grandma or Grandpa.
The company says it's test has a result ratio of 95 to 98%. OB/Gyns aren't that sure. They say the amount of cross blood in the mother's system at only 6 weeks isn't reliable enough to be positive.
Current medical testing done by doctors are ultrasounds (16 to 20 weeks) and amniocentesis with a small risk of miscarriage at 11 weeks.
While the test is online it will not ship to China or India where the one baby a family rule is. The company doesnt want their test to be used as a means for deciding if a mother wants to abort simply because of gender.
