Hong Kong Post Office Eyes Bible Ban
Responding to complaints from angry patrons the Hong Kong post office is considering whether or not to place restrictions on the mailing of a controversial book.
In the well known novel and movie “A Clockwork Orange” the hero, murder, rapist and all round sociopath “Little Alex” is sent to prison for his crimes but was able to earn a early release, in part, owing to his constant reading of the Bible. As Alex points out his main interest in the book stems from its many scenes of murder, rape and torture.
In an eerie echo of this confession a sex column in a university student journal has prompted more than 800 complaints from Hong Kong residents seeking to have the postal authorities reclassify the Bible as “indecent” due to its sexual and violent content.
Among the incidents that prompted the complaints such scenes as:
• A woman nails a man’s head to the ground with a tent peg while he sleeps
• A father turns his virgin daughter over to a mob who rapes her to death
• The body of a woman is cut up by her family and pieces are sent to her relatives.
• Numerous scenes of mass murder and rape
• Infanticide on God’s orders
• Sex slaves
• Mass murder of members of other religions
• Murder of nonbelievers
• Judicial killing of people who work on the Sabbath
• Wholesale destruction of cities
• Slavery
• Human sacrifice
If the ban passes Bible would have to be sold with adult warning labels and only offered in plain brown wrappers.

Well it is completely true. A Holy book or not there is much content in the Bible that is not fit for children to read, at least without an adult there to soften the blow. I had problems reading my children the tail of Noah's ark because God was killing everyone. If it had been any other book I wouldn't have exposed them to it. Infact I think I just told the story without the killing part, I am sure they will ask what happend to all the other families eventually.

There is a persistent rumor that a famous pornographer, the founder of Penthouse is often mentioned, who wants to make an film showing an “accurate” set of Biblical stories but he is afraid that it will get an X rating. Nailing a man’s head to the ground would make for a rather gory movie as would the gang rape death of the virgin daughter of Lot’s host. The Bible was originally drawn from an even bigger collection of Near Eastern adult literature.
-
The Bible gets down and dirty with the frailities of humanity though. It shows what animals we can be. I think by exposing the horrors of life it is meant to teach us. What bothers me is when people use it to instill fear to gain a convert.

The bad bits however are the ones God takes part in. This is where the theology of "wrestling" with God comes from and also where God "repenting" is headed. There is a case to be made for the idea that God does not want unthinking, moral eunuchs but thinking humans, created in his own image, who will stand up to him and tell him he is wrong when he is. Moses did it and God repented. It is something to consider.

No Scoop in Jesus' opinion. He often quotes from "lost" books of the Bible and there are NUMEROUS mentions in other books of the Bible of books we no longer have. In the story of Solomon, for example we are given references to several books that we no longer have. The Biblical writer says "for more information consult...."
There is a HUGE amount of Biblical literature that didn’t get canonized, for political reasons but still is in use by Christians today. For example there are the “other Gospels.”
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=stripbooks&field-keywords=the%20other%20gospels&results-process=default&dispatch=search/ref=pd_sl_ya_tops-1_stripbooks_32145277_1&results-process=default
The Dead Sea Scrolls are another collection of ancient Biblical literature, some of which made it into the canon and some of which did not. Thus Scoop the idea that the Bible was drawn from a even bigger collection of Near Eastern adult literature is a fact, not an opinion.

That is very funny, however it appears that the media is reporting similar incidents with what has been going on in the war with Iraq. Through the Internet we have already seen beheadings and we saw Saddam hanged. It will only be a matter of time before those other horrors appear on the Internet for all to witness. I suppose the only difference between the biblical days and now is the internet.
-
OK so what does the post office have to do with this, do they peek in your packages over there or what?
And why the sudden outrage, if anybody has read the bible before they would already know it is one of the most bloody books in print.
I have to admit I never read the "adult" bible to my girls when they were growing up it. There were children's versions of some of the bible stories with messages such as love thy neighbor and turn the other cheek things such as this that I looked over.
I see absolutely no reason to expose a child to this.

Yes children should not be exposed to this but as I have stated in the above post, it appears that the poor children of Iraq are not only being exposed to this but are living it. How are the horrors which are going on today in Iraq any different than the horrors of the biblical times?

I got the bulk of this story off the TV news tonight but went on line to find a link to add. From what I have been able to discover it was the patrons of the post office and not the office itself that had a problem with receiving the books in the mail. Wild guess, maybe someone is mailing Bibles with out the recipient’s permission?
I think we have all had the experience of having people come to our doors or stop us in public and try to push their religion on us. Maybe that is what is happening here. I don’t know.
Could you imagine if some of these stories were made into movies? Whoa!

On the topic of unwanted evangelism I once worked in a business where the employees got together and demanded that a person be fired for “witnessing” to us without our permission. She tried to sue but this is California and she was laughed out of court.
When I was in the Army I filed a “Congressional” complaint which got a chaplain kicked out for using his rank to force soldiers to attend his services. There is such a thing as freedom FROM religion.

No there is not, the "wall between church and state" was never meant to imply that a person did not have to be witness to any type of religious activity. It simply meant the Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." For some reason people forget that last part.
California is such a backward state, the more I hear about it the more I never want to visit. I would be burned at the stake for saying "Bless you" when someone sneezed!
Was the person witnessing to you insulting you on a daily basis or just annoying? Cause that makes all the difference in the world about how I feel about you statements.
I agree with the army chaplain thing though. The US Military has some weird ways of dealing with religion that need addressed.
-
I just reread what I wrote and it sounds a bit abbrasive. It isn't meant to be. The California thing was a joke, I know people aren't that mean and I would miss out on quite a bit of beauty if I never visited. lol.

A person’s right to swing their arms in the air ends at the point their fist contacts someone else’s nose. No one in the Golden State complains about people saying “bless you.” We do however, object when people follow you around preaching at you or will not take a polite “no thank you” as a hint that their “religious insight” is not wanted or welcome.
To me it does not matter if the evangelist is insulting or merely annoying. No means no in religion as well as sex. I like your new avatar by the way. If that is you then you are a very beautiful woman in which case I am sure that you have had to fend off unwanted attentions of men, some of whom think that no means yes. An evangelist does not help their religion by trying to cram it down other people’s throats. When you get a whole office to get together and go to the boss because one person is disrupting things then a line has been crossed.
If a evangelist really wants to convince others of the “rightness” of their religion they should “model virtue.”

As a military wife you will probably end up here sooner or later. Travis Air Force Base is not a bad duty station. The PX is as big as a civilian shopping mall and the schools are outstanding. Besides it is only about an hour’s drive to Berkeley (best book stores on the West Coast) and San Francisco.

Well I can't disagree with that. If you ask someone to stop and they don't that is harassment. I was actually thinking about that after I wrote my reply. I assumed no one had talked to her, which was a wrong assumption.
Thank you for the compliment, and Yes I do get unwanted advances.

When I start my bible readings like 2 years ago and after quit drinking, smoking, received two shots bullet, one in my arm and other 22 bullet in my hand where stays wright now because according to a doctor is dangerous to remove, also get hit by a baseball bat in my head, fell back down from a river ridge in a Yunke Puerto Rico, ect ect ect , That cut be a good testimony even to be a big a good prof et person in religion, I don't know why I begging to start looking for the logic of everything, Maybe because when you find the real true on what you don't understand, and may scare you in any way, then you can take away that scare filling and at the same time avoid to have stress what, What I think is number 1 reason for to many illness, when interfere in your body energy, magnetics, metabolins,I believe in computer, thanks to that we don't have to use a typewriter machine anymore, we use Gps system, and to many other advance in technology that with out a computer cant be done, can you imagine a if a 90% of peoples in the all the word have a fanatic, or extremist religion mind. I think that then, It something like that happen, maybe now with cut be behind in time 100 years, I also believe in nanotechnology, biology, and all that is related in any way with human biology, genetic, and magnetic, and to other many thinks that, if I was losing my time ready the bible and try to understand the mining of bible, will never get to know and advance more in science, to many already has died with more knologe or intelligence that me with not reach what they looking for in the Bibles readings, I found that is a lot of violence, non sense, and other thinks in the bible that for me with only my high school diploma and a manpower course to be a key punch operator back in 1974, and understand that is a non sense book, and growing up in a catholic world with my family I learn to be at less a Christian person who really believe that a human been named Jesus exist back in time, and tray to leave a message of peace and love, and hopping that at less, the 10 command is really a world from god, we don't need to look for anything else in the bible, I really think that a person like, god do not going to leave a message that hart to understand from the bible if I want or anyone want to be under stud we going to try to be clear an simple in the message that we want to send to people, I agree with Honk Konk, and that some one sure study of the damage the bible already has been done to humanity just because every one have a different interpretation of the bible, also because is one of the must reader book, Like when Nostradamus after when to Israel to study the Koran or Bible start writing books with sopouse profecys that then later Hitler and Napoleon use for their own politic purpose when they with a sick mind want to scare peoples make the beleive that they are the antricrist Nostradamus mention in his books and coming from readings of the bible or Koran, I don't know why the color of the cover bible is black, but if you realize how many people has died from the very begin in Roman times, people who died because the crazy mind of Hitler and Napoleon, the peoples who died because thanks to church when make people believe that they need to kill wishes, and that according to Davinci Code movie that very real reason was because the Church want kill Maria Madgalena decendence woman's, more close to this time, a lot of dead from the Meddle East country's where they still believing in a holly war for land of God, and to have everything ready when God comes back, I don't believe anyone know how many people has died in those country, is like the capital own by the Vatican and all their branches, nobody I think know how much money they have under the bed or their banks account, Why? Why the Vatican need all their Churches need all this money when people died in all the world for food, medicine, illness, Why the Vatican need to have in secret all what they done when a new Pappas comes, all that coming from 500 years ago, times when peoples believe the planet was flat, when the Church believe that the Earth goes around the sun, we need to update our priorities to be a better human been and be fair with every one, in the end in only a planet for every one.

Hong Kong Post Office Eyes Bible Ban

Responding to complaints from angry patrons the Hong Kong post office is considering whether or not to place restrictions on the mailing of a controversial book.

I just reread what I wrote and it sounds a bit abbrasive. It isn't meant to be. The California thing was a joke, I know people aren't that mean and I would miss out on quite a bit of beauty if I never visited. lol.

@ lensman67 :
Well I can't disagree with that. If you ask someone to stop and they don't that is harassment. I was actually thinking about that after I wrote my reply. I assumed no one had talked to her, which was a wrong assumption.
Thank you for the compliment, and Yes I do get unwanted advances.

I will probably never see California because my husband is a reservist, although he is activated constantly so you really can't call him just a weekend warrior. lol
