Finally a Calgary man gets jail time for animal abuse.
Duston Wicker was sentenced to 3 months in jail for scalding his pet cat so badly it had to be eventually put to sleep.
He pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary pain, suffering and injuries to an orange tabby named Tiger.
He said he held the cat under hot water for more than 2 minutes until the cat went into shock and no longer struggled.
The cat was taken to the Calgary Humane Society with a broken tail, a split lip, eye trauma and first-degree burns to the ears, legs and paws. They thought at one time the animal could be saved but he just would not eat and had to be euthanized in light of the extensive damage to his legs' tendons and muscles and the loss of all his toes.
He was also given 2 years probation and he is not allowed to own an animal during that time.
He will do the jail time on weekends starting this Friday. He is also ordered to get anger management therapy.
I do not think he should ever be allowed to own an animal, not just for the 2 years he is on probation. To do that to a helpless animal is sickening.
I am glad he got more than just a slap on the wrist and a fine. I think he should also have to do community service at an animal shelter supervised of course.
