Chewing gum found in McDonalds Big Extra
This is a timely story seeing as how we have been talking about food and food safety here. This one is most likely a prank and not something that any food inspection agency could have prevented.
Max Ipinza was having lunch with some co-workers in a Vancouver McDonald's. As he was enjoying his Big extra he noticed a taste fo peppermint. now peppermint is not one of the flavours you usually associate with any kind of hamburger so Ipinza was a bit worried.
He spit the food out of his mouth back onto the plate which must have been entertaining for his co-workers but a wise move nonetheless. Ipinza then went to the hospital as he was worried that he may have contacted hepatitis. The doctors said he was to return if flu-like symptoms appeared
Ipinza will be packing his own lunches from now on, he is convinced that this was a deliberate action. I agree that someone with access to the burger at some point in the process added the gum. I know very little about how the meat travels from the cow to the table in the case of a McDonald's burger, so can't comment on the when or the why of this story.
