Hate crimes are targeting evangelical and other Bible-believing Christians according to the head of a Jewish pro-family group. He states it is because of their belief in Judeo-Christian morality.
The president of Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation, Don Feder, says if the legislation for hate crimes is enacted, it will place homosexual behavior in the same status for protection under federal law as race and religion.
This is ironic," Feder contends, "when you consider the fact that congressmen take their oath of office in the presence of a Bible whose injunctions concerning homosexual acts are crystal clear." He goes on to state, "for the record," that "race is innate, religion is a matter of conscience, [but] sexual behavior is neither."
Feder says the bill that has been approved by the House and now is before the Senate is not about hate crimes. What it is is "thought crimes" and is
"worthy of a Soviet Union,"
because this legislation is not to punish assault or harrassment but it is to punish words and ideas.
The pro-family leader says the bill approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and now being considered in the Senate is not about hate crimes but about "thought crimes" and is "worthy of a Soviet Union," as this so-called "hate crimes" legislation is not designed to punish assault or harassment. Such legislation seeks to
"criminalize the ethic on which this country was founded,"
he asserts.
At a press conference in Washington D.C. Feder said :
"Americans are famously tolerant," Feder adds. "But if you explain to them that a preacher, a priest, or a rabbi could be arrested for quoting scripture if this law is enacted," he says, "they would start a second American Revolution right here in Washington, DC. The Battle of Bunker Hill would be recreated on Constitution Avenue."
