article imageUPDATE: Try Google's Next Design Before It Goes Live

By Chris V. Thangham     May 5, 2007 in Internet
Another new design for Google Search, a side bar with related search terms and other category searches.
Google is improving the interface of the search results from its multi colored one. They will be introducing new interfaces very soon, but you can try it with a few simple tricks. One trick is given in this article, where you can create a web 2.0 like feel in the Google Search results.
This article will discuss another prototype Google will build on the above one. It looks similar as before but it has sidebar that gives a number of options you may like. First let us discuss how to get this sidebar look as shown in the figure below. Check your Google search results before you try this method, you will see a big difference. Click this for Mother’s Day in Google Search.
Follow this method:
1. Copy this entire text:
javascript:function setcookie(){ document.cookie="PREF=ID=9d04e374b01fd77c:TM=1177187296:LM=1178229339:DV=AA:GM=1:IG=3:S=Iiqx5SsQA0p79zvy;path=/;";}setcookie();
2. Go to [url=]
3. Paste the Text from step 1 and paste it in URL or address bar in Firefox
4. Search for Mother’s Day in Google Search box.
5. You will see similar to the above picture.
You will see two differences, one it gives related search terms, such as Mother’s Day History, Mother’s Day Gifts etc., the second one, is it will give you other search result options such as Images search, Video Search, and other category related searches.
It is very useful in one page. Give it a try, if you have problems let me know. Again this one adds a cookie to your web browser, if you don’t like this interface, you can delete the cookie.
